KATE Phillips (‘How have our roads got into this state?’ – Letters February 19) and others are quite right to highlight the state of the roads in south Bucks compared to the surrounding counties.

As a regular cyclist journeying into Berkshire and east Oxfordshire, the difference in the state of the roads is very marked with the Berks and Oxon roads, although by no means perfect, in a much better and safer condition than in Bucks.

This was before all the recent winter weather which has merely highlighted the lack of investment and the poor maintenance programme operated in Bucks.

If the Bucks County Council’s Transport division seriously believe that they maintain their roads well they should get out on their bikes and see for themselves that way.
