A CLOTHES store in Marlow was transformed into a television studio as it became centre stage for Sweeney star Dennis Waterman.

Gatsby in West Street, was chosen as the location for BBC One's New Tricks programme.

A scene was shot on Monday last week at the shop.

The idea of the scenario is the daughter of Mr Waterman's character is trying to smarten up his image.

Shop owner James Mulchrone, 39, from Maidenhead, said: “It was fantastic, what was lovely it was a strong personal touch, they encouraged us to bring my eight year-old Jeremy.

“He loved it to bits, they gave him a copy of the script and let him sit with the camera crews.”

The store was picked by a BBC location manager who has shopped there before.

Mr Mulchrone said: “It was a mixture of excitement and pride, it's nice meeting somebody who you actually grew up with from the Sweeney and Minder.

“Dennis Waterman was a charming chap, he was very accommodating, gracious and happy to have photos with my little boy.”

He added: “They had to bring in a rain mac for the prop as part of the script and he wasn't very complimentary about it but thankfully that wasn't part of my line. Some of my clothes are in shot though.”

The store, which supplies outfits for television chef Heston Blumenthal and Terry Wogan, got its name from the famous F.Scott Fitzgerald novel The Great Gatsby.
