THE Earl and Countess of Wessex officially opened the new multi-million pound swimming pool in Thame on Thursday.

Prince Edward and the Countess unveiled a plaque at the £4.5 million pool at Thame Leisure Centre in Oxford Road.

They met and spoke to a number of staff at the centre and heard a speech from Thame mayor Michael Welply.

The royal guests were also shown around the new £1.84 million gym, health suite and dance studio before unveiling the plaque at 12.30pm.

A staggering 15,000 people have visited the centre since it was opened in December with 6,000 taking a dip in the pool.
