PUPILS have won a major national science competition after exploring the solubility of sugar in water and adapting egg-timing devices
Year eight pupils from Chesham High School presented the findings of their experiment to teachers and the school's deputy head and submitted their findings in the form of a creative poster to the Association for Science Education.
The schoolchildren were presented with a trophy and £200 for science equipment at the finals of the Science Challenge competition, at Imperial College in London last Monday, hosted by television presenter Jenny Hull of BBC1's How Do They Do That?
Pupils were given the task of adapting four devices so the judges could accurately time their boiled eggs, presented a drama about their investigation into dissolving sugar and took part in a quiz relating to all parts of the Science National Curriculum.
Their science teacher, Antonia Thoday, said: 'The trophy is a geode. It's very impressive and the children thoroughly enjoyed their day at the finals.'
