I WOULD like to make an appeal through your letters page to the townsfolk of High Wycombe.
As Mayor of High Wycombe, I am following in my predecessors' footsteps in chairing the Annual Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, which will run from Saturday, October 24, until Sunday, November 8.
Many of you will know that the High Wycombe branch of the Poppy Appeal regularly collects tens of thousands of pounds, money which is spent on relieving suffering and hardship experienced by ex-servicemen and the spouses and dependants of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the service of their country.
Many local people have benefited, and still are benefiting from Poppy Appeal funds.
I would like to ask all your readers to continue to contribute to this special charity.
Moreover, I appeal to those of you who can, to spare a couple of hours to volunteer to collect for the Poppy Appeal.
Understandably, the number of regular collectors is dwindling due to age and infirmity and this year more volunteers are needed to collect.
If you can help, please contact Flt Lt Ken Jackson on (01494) 448800. We hope to exceed last year's record total of £43,000.
The annual Remembrance Day Parade and Service in High Wycombe will be held on Sunday, November 8, commencing with a parade in the High Street at 10.30am. I look forward to seeing you there.
