MARLOW Regatta is set to clash with Prince Edward's wedding and Ascot week.

The regatta, one of the premier events in the British rowing calendar, is being held at Higginson Park on June 19 -- the same day as the royal wedding at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle.

Royal Ascot is being held from June 15 to June 18, but a normal day of racing will take place at the Berkshire course on regatta day.

Despite the clash, organisers of the regatta were not concerned about any possible competition from other events taking place.

Tony Evans, secretary of the regatta, said that the co-incidence was "just one of those things" and would not affect attendances.

He said: "Are they Prince Edward and Sophie Rhys-Jones aware they are clashing with us?

"We have been thinking about the dates of our regattas for years and there are no plans to change any of them."

Bill Findlay, chairman of the regatta management committee, said he did not have an invitation to go to the royal wedding in any case.

He added: "We have no concerns about the clash of dates. It should not affect us in any way.

"We have often held the race on the same day as Royal Ascot, so the difference this year will only be minor. I thought the royal wedding was going to be a low-key affair anyway."

A spokesman for Buckingham Palace said details of media coverage for the royal wedding have yet to be decided.
