COMMUTERS can help preserve a slice of 20th century life for future generations by donating a briefcase to a museum.

The Wycombe Museum, in Priory Avenue, High Wycombe, is in the final stage of its redevelopment.

As part of an exhibition, the museum hopes a commuter from South Bucks will donate a briefcase and some of its typical contents as a form of time capsule.

Marc Meltonville, from the museum, said: "Obviously we don't want private documents but just items which a typical commuter might carry with them on a train travelling into work.

"We already have the first rail ticket sold on the Marylebone line in 1906."

The museum is also searching for families who moved into the town this century to tell their story, and families with three generations living in the area who represent the communities of immigrants -- the Welsh in the 1930s, the Polish refugees after the Second World War, and Afro-Caribbean and Asian people from the 1950s onwards.

The museum also wants details of the Rolling Stones concert at the Town Hall in the late 1960s and old Valentine cards decorated with lace from early this century.
