THE heart-warming tale of pensioner Ernest Stallwood's victorious fight to have a crucial road crossing installed near his road shows what can be done with people power.
In a week when the local elections are anticipated to, yet again, produce a low turnout, partially-blind Mr Stallwood has demonstrated the importance of campaigning for what you believe in. People who complain that nothing ever changes and refuse to vote in elections should look to Mr Stallwood as an example.
After setting out on his campaign five years ago, Mr Stallwood will celebrate his 83rd birthday a happy man after finally reaching his goal.
It is unlikely that the crossing would ever have been built without Mr Stallwood's passion and commitment. The whole of High Wycombe owes him a debt of thanks.
