Three brown plastic bottles each containing 100 tablets and bearing the name of the dispenser, in a blue bag also bearing the chemist's name, were lost between 9.30am and 11am on Monday in the area of the Octagon, Bellfield, Oxford Road, Oxford Street and Hughenden Road. The bottles contain red and white tablets that are very dangerous and fatal if taken in quantity.

THIEVES who broke into a house on Saturday night stayed for a meal. They helped themselves to eggs, which they cooked and ate. The owners of the house are still away so the police have as yet been unable to contact them to find out what has been stolen. In Bourne End this week, different thieves broke into a bungalow and, while ransacking the rooms and collecting valuable property, ate biscuits and took bottles of gin, brandy, rum and whisky. The loot included food.

THE mayor convened a special meeting of the town council at the Guildhall, for which the business on the agenda was described as "Gift by Lord Lincolnshire of Land adjoining The Rye." The mayor said they would well remember the gift which the Marquis of Lincolnshire gave to the borough of High Wycombe a few weeks ago -- the new entrance to The Rye from the War Office gates in Queen Victoria Road. His Lordship has now offered to hand over three-and-a-half acres of The Rye to the corporation.

ON Monday evening, the mail van which leaves the Wycombe Post Office shortly after 7 o'clock came to grief. A short distance over Marlow Bridge, a costermonger's cart violently collided with the mail van. The horse of the mail van began to kick and plunge about, it galloped off at a furious speed, and having the mail bags in his care, the postman was placed in a dilemma. The bags were taken by rail and the mailman continued back to Wycombe. It was stated the collision arose from passing cyclists.
