DELIVERY of mail in the High Wycombe area was delayed on Tuesday by a bomb scare at High Wycombe General Post Office. After a carefully-packed cylindrical object had been placed in a litter bin in the post office yard -- later blown up by bomb disposal men -- Wycombe police issued the description of a man they wished to interview and a search was undertaken. He was aged about 50, 5ft 8in in height, of thin build, wearing glasses, and of scruffy appearance. He was wearing a fawn-coloured raincoat.

PASSENGERS on the 9.40pm train from Marylebone on Saturday had a very long and dismal wait on Beaconsfield railway station, from about 10.35pm until approximately half an hour after midnight. They were obliged to leave the comparative comfort and warmth of the rail coaches for the chilly midnight air on the station platform because the engine which should have got them to High Wycombe by 10.40pm broke down. Something went wrong with the brakes and no amount of pulling and pushing would budge the engine.

LAST Saturday's event at Kop Hill, Princes Risborough, was chiefly remarkable for the amazing speed put up by T R Allchin on a 7.46 Douglas and sidecar. Allchin already held the sidecar record for the hill, which he made on a big Harley-Davidson earlier in the year. On Saturday, he streaked up in 27.925 seconds, a wonderful performance, which was only beaten by a fraction of a second by the famous Leyland Eight racing car. It was possible that the course on this occasion was a little shorter than previously.

AN extraordinary charge was brought against a lady artist who pleaded not guilty to stealing a dog's muzzle. The prosecutor said, on the 22nd of August, he took his dog out with him muzzled in the direction of Farnham Common. He lost sight of the dog and it did not return for two days. Eventually, he went to the defendant's house and saw the dog tied up. He took the dog back and it was without the muzzle. The chairman told the court there was no evidence to show the muzzle was stolen and she was discharged.
