Muslims gather to celebrate Eid MOSQUE secretary Gulzar Khan has thanked Prime Minister Tony Blair for sending a message to Muslims before thousands gathered on Sunday to enjoy Eid celebrations.
Mr Khan, secretary of the Wycombe Islamic Mission, in Jubilee Road, High Wycombe, said he was pleased Mr Blair became the first British Prime Minister to give Eid congratulations to Muslims.
Mr Khan said: "We are very grateful to the Prime Minister for his recognition of the Muslim faith in this country.
"We are touched that he has addressed us before Eid and we hope this positive move will bring all communities closer together."
Meanwhile, worshippers gathered at the Mosque in High Wycombe to carry out Eid prayers and later gathered with family and friends to reminisce and consume large quantities of food. In the afternoon, money is given to children who wait to see what their parents and relatives have in store for them.
Eid commemorates the sacrifice of Abraham and is one of the two main religious festivals in the Islamic calendar.
