Changing heads at Marlow school LONDON headmaster Clive Ricks is to become the new head at Great Marlow School following the retirement of Paul Howson.

Mr Ricks, who is currently deputy headmaster at Hatch End High School in Harrow, London, will take up his new position in September.

Mr Ricks, 43, said: "I am very pleased to be going to Great Marlow School. It's a school that is going places and hopefully we can carry it on to even greater heights."

Before joining Hatch End High School three years ago, Mr Ricks, from Cumnor, had been acting deputy head at Matthew Arnold School in Oxford.

His wife Eileen is now acting head of the school.

Mr Howson, 57, retires this week from the school in Bobmore Lane after eight years as headmaster.

He leaves the school after it was named as the couty's most improved school in tables published by the Department for Education and Employment last year. "I feel I am leaving at the right time," said Mr Howson.

"The school has made tremendous strides over the past few years and is now seen as one of the best in the community. It will do even better in the years to come."

Mr Howson is not planning a quiet retirement as he might travel abroad for a couple of years.

"I am not quite ready to sit in front of the fire and gaze into it," he said.
