Playtime: Beaconsfield town councillors Lesley Maillinder, Paul Henry, Les Davies, Trevor Egleton and Malcolm Dunlop COUNCILLORS swung into action when they unveiled play equipment costing nearly £50,000.

Two playgrounds containing the new play equipment, paid for by Beaconsfield Town Council, were officially opened last Friday.

They offer children in the area a chance to enjoy new swings, slides and basketball hoops.

Councillors consulted parents about the design before the playgrounds were constructed.

The revitalisation of the old play area at Holtspur Way Recreation Ground in Beaconsfield, cost £24,500 and was undertaken by Wicksteed Leisure Limited, of Kettering.

A grant of £5,000 from South Bucks District Council's grants sub-committee was also provided for the Holtspur Way project.

The play area at Malthouse Square, Beaconsfield, cost £21,788 to install by Playdale Leisure of Ulverston, Cumbria.

Beaconsfield town councillor Lesley Mallinder said: "We felt the existing playgrounds needed attention so we decided to take action to update the playgrounds. We also looked at safety aspects and felt that it was the town council's responsibility to put up the money to fund the project. Advice was also taken from mothers in the town who proposed ideas about the design of the new equipment."
