Blair and Brown aren't socialists

I DID not observe the letter to which Mr Fontannaz claims to be responding, but it cannot, surely, merit the vicious slur on the character of Messrs Blair and Brown which Mr Fontannaz inflicts by accusing them, by inference of being socialist?

Socialism requires that the ownership of the means of producing and distributing wealth be vested in the whole community and democratically administered by them for and in the interests of, that whole community. Nothing more. This is hardly difficult to grasp and the fact that Mr Fontannaz's ignorance of political economy is shared by so many other Conservatives, fails to excuse him.

His confusion appears to be emphasised by the fact that the Labour Party has embraced with almost religious fervour, the tenets of the previous administration.

If Mr Fontannaz could find time to rid himself of his favourite prejudices for a time, he might consider why the Labour Party, if it be socialist, does not so call itself?
