STRUGGLING High Wycombe insist they are raring to go for tomorrow's clash at basement side Bournemouth, where they hope to pick up some vital points.

The South West Two bottom-of-the-table battle could prove just the tonic Wycs need after their disappointing 33-22 defeat at the hands of Chinnor at Kingsmead last Saturday.

That loss throws Wycs into their third relegation battle in as many seasons as they bid to avoid the drop, again.

But they are doing it blindfolded, still unaware of how many teams will go down this season and where they need to finish to stay up.

Club secretary Don Dickerson told the BFP: "We still don't know how many will go down, it depends on what happens in the divisions about us and how many teams in our region finish near the bottom."

But he admitted no one at Kingsmead is despondent, despite the fact the club is third from bottom, propped up by just Wimbourne and Bournemouth.

"We've still got some games coming up that we think we can win. Everyone is looking forward to Bournemouth," he said.

"We are not despondent. We're still very optimistic.

"Our problem is that we give away too many penalties. It's disappointing to lose in that way."

Last Saturday, Chinnor ran in five tries to Wycombe's two at Kingsmead.

Wycombe had the early pressure and went ahead when stand-in captain Rob Hawkins kicked a penalty after ten minutes.

They went hunting for more points, but a wild pass allowed Chinnor to break for a converted try two minutes later.

Hawkins responded with two further penalty goals to put Wycombe back in front before a Scott Cutler try made it 14-7 to the home side.

But a Wycombe lapse allowed Chinnor a second try and their conversion made it level at the break.

Wycombe never really recovered from that and the second half belonged to the visitors. They ran in three further tries, two converted, while Wycs could only respond with a Hawkins penalty.

Nick Harrison scored a try late on, but it was too late for a Wycombe recovery.
