THIS photograph shows children sharing tea, sandwiches and a joke at Micklefield Youth Club, High Wycombe, on May 23, 1956.
After tea the children would have probably gone to play draughts, snakes and ladders and other board games. If the weather permitted, some would play outside, football for the boys and jump rope for the girls.
Typically for the times, the girls are all wearing respectable long, collared dresses, which would have been teamed with ankle socks and completely flat shoes. There would not have been a pair of trainers or platform shoes in sight. The boys look smart, but it is unlikely these shirts, pressed trousers and tank tops will be making a comeback.
