Old girls of the Great Kingshill school have formed a group to organise yearly reunions with ex-classmates. The group had its first meeting on Saturday.

Its chairman Mrs Trudy Hall, who went to the school from 1965 to 1969, said: "I remember my time at the school when we used to have to say a grace in Latin every afternoon before lunch. If we made a mistake we would have to recite the grace again from the beginning and our dinners would go cold.

"One thing I do recall is that when we were at the school we were not allowed to wear nail varnish. When we had been out at the weekend we would have to come into school and raid the science lab for a chemical called acetone to remove the polish. Unfortunately this was quite harsh and nearly removed your nail as well as the polish. The school is much less austere now and my daughter is very happy there, although I believe nail polish is still banned."
