ENGLAND bowls international Lynne Thelwell has been named sports personality of the year by Marlow Town Council.

Mrs Thelwell, 53, of Maple Rise, Marlow, has played for Marlow Bowls Club for 18 years where she has won a catalogue of awards.

She is a Bucks county player who competes each year in the Johns Trophy and Double Rink, both national inter-county competitions.

Over the past three years she has skippered teams which have won the County Triples competition and, in 1997, her team won the Bucks Two Wood singles competition.

She has also represented England in the British Isles Championships.

Mrs Thelwell, pictured above, said: "I'm thrilled to bits. I'm especially pleased to have won in the year my club celebrates its 80th anniversary. I hope it will generate more interest in the game and attract more younger players."
