A 16-YEAR-OLD girl suffering from meningitis is said to be improving eight days after she was admitted to Wycombe Hospital

The girl, who has not been named, is a pupil at Chesham High School where all her close contacts have been traced and given antibiotics. She was admitted to hospital last Thursday afternoon.

Joy Kay, bed manager at Wycombe Hospital, said: "It has been confirmed as meningitis and she is currently in a stable condition and improving slowly."

A spokesman for Buckinghamshire Health Authority said all parents of pupils at the school were told about the case at the end of last week.

Tim Andrew, headteacher at Chesham High, in White Hill, said the school is closely following the advice of the health authority, that parents had been contacted and pupils should attend school as normal.

The health authority spokesman added there were 74 cases in Bucks with 21 in South Bucks last year.
