STAFF at McDonald's served up a record-breaking fundraising bid to help premature babies born at Wycombe Hospital.

The 100 workers at the restaurant's High Wycombe branch took part in activities including bungee jumping and sponsored walks to raise money for the Special Care Baby Unit.

The amount the restaurant raised makes it the branch that has raised the most money in a McDonald's appeal in England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales. The money raised in last year's appeal will be used to buy a £14,000 specialist machine that measures the blood pressure of premature babies.

The machine will be vital in helping to save babies' lives during the first critical days.

The remaining money will be put towards other equipment.

Wycombe MP Sir Ray Whitney and Janet Milne from SCBU

fundraising Club, congratulated and thanked staff and customers of the restaurant.

Sir Ray said: "These people have harnessed the energy of the local community, to achieve fantastic results.

"The people of Wycombe have pulled together to help these infants whose lives are in our hands."

Martyn Palumbo, franchisee of McDonald's at High Wycombe, explained how the staff visited the unit to see for themselves the reasons why funds are needed.

"We always get all the staff involved by taking them to the Special Care Baby Unit to see exactly why we are raising funds.

"We then raise money day and night to help provide the best care possible for the babies when they need it most."

He added: "We would really like to say a huge thanks to all our customers who have helped us to raise this amazing amount of money"
