ANGRY parents fighting to save a special school for the deaf say they will not give up -- despite the fact only two MPs turned up at a special meeting in the House of Commons.

Parents arranged for a discussion with 17 MPs last Thursday to get them to appeal to Education Secretary David Blunkett to save Penn School, in Church Road, Penn.

However, only two attended the meeting -- Chesham and Amersham MP Cheryl Gillan and Harrow West MP Gareth Thomas.

Parents of the 21 pupils attending the school started their campaign when Camden Borough Council announced its intention to withdraw its funding on August 31.

Helen Wayne, of Stubbs Wood, Amersham, was one of the 16 parents who made the special trip to London.

She said: "We are very disappointed that none of the other MPs came.

"It is a very difficult time for all the parents because we have been living with this uncertainty for over a year."

The parents only received apologies from two MPs for not showing.

Mrs Gillan, who has supported the school in the past, said: "I have offered to obtain an adjourned debate in the House.

"I fully support the work of parents and governors. The closure of the school will bring a lot of grieve to the community."

Mrs Wayne, whose son Christopher, ten, attends the school, added: "We want our students to stay at the school so we will keep fighting.

"It seems to us because we are just a minority, nobody seems to care about the children outside the school. But we haven't given up."
