TOWN council chairman David Allworth wants to see Princes Risborough put in the picture.

Cllr Allworth, who has lived in the town for over 40 years, says it is now almost impossible to get postcards depicting the many picturesque scenes of Risborough.

He believes that apart from there being a strong demand for such postcards, they could also boost trade by attracting more tourists to the town.

Cllr Allworth said: "As long as I can remember you could always easily get a postcard of Risborough, but now you cannot. We get a fair number of visitors to the town, so it is a surprise to me that they are not readily available."

He added: "We have a number of attractive spots, such as Monks Risborough and Whiteleaf Cross, which make beautiful postcards. And those who receive them may think it's well worth giving us a visit."

Cllr Allworth's concern is also being voiced by the town council, which has taken up the issue with the chamber of trade.

Cllr Allworth feels the reason for the lack of postcards may be because traders often have to buy supplies in bulk, which can be expensive.

He said: "It is a suggestion that different groups and traders in the town could join together to split the costs of buying or producing the cards."

Amanda Leighton, owner of Cards for You in the High Street, Princes Risborough, said she would be willing to get together with other shopowners to purchase a bulk supply of postcards.

She said: "There is a big demand for postcards of the town from visitors as well as schools.

"We used to sell postcards of Risborough, but the company we got them from went bust. Our only option now is to buy them in bulk, but that is quite pricey. I think a few of us should get together to buy the postcards and split the costs."
