BURFORD School fete reached new heights in fundraising despite a problem getting balloons off the ground.

Pauline Atkins, chairman of Friends of Burford, Marlow Bottom, said of the fete held on Sunday: "We had a brilliant day and raised at least £2,300. We only raised £1,800 last year.

"We had a great balloon race with 675 balloons set off in two sessions.

"There was some embarrassment when we launched the second lot. A lot of them just landed in the playground. I had helped out blowing them up and hadn't sealed them properly. We had to get them all back again.

"The parents were superb in helping with the event."

During the fete, year three pupils staged country dancing and the two valley playgroups combined to perform songs and dance.
