THE Heritage Lottery fund must be congratulated for handing more than £200,000 to the Woodland Trust and the Friends of Penn Wood, who are attempting to save the 432 acres of ancient woodland.
Already, hundreds of Bucks Free Press readers and supporters of the woodland have dug into their pockets and given their time to fundraising events to raise money for one of Buckinghamshire's most beautiful spots.
In the past, Lottery funds have been criticised for the way they have distributed money, but on this occasion no one in the country can be offended.
So far, the fund has reached £750,000 of the £1.1 million needed to save the woodland.
The people of this county must not give up the fight to raise the remainder of the cash needed to preserve part of the past for our future.
