CAMPAIGNERS opposed to plans for a £2 million millennium pool in Marlow are calling for a public meeting to discuss the project.

Ruth Jewell, a former Marlow Urban District Council chairman, fought to get the town its existing pool at Court Garden and put a penny on the rates to pay for it. The pool was named after her.

Wycombe District Council leisure department is submitting plans to replace the pool with a bigger 25 metre pool.

But Mrs Jewell said there are many questions on traffic and costs that have been left unanswered.

Fellow objector Peter Kingbury is backing Mrs Jewell's call for a public meeting. He said: "People do not realise that in the end ratepayers are going to pay for it.

"£490,000 is an utter waste when we have Handy Cross."
