FORMER Loudwater resident Jeff Jefford has given his backing to schoolgirl Emma Seymour's campaign for a pedestrian crossing opposite the Thanestead Farm estate in London Road.

Emma contacted Buckinghamshire County Council, which is responsible for road safety, highlighting the plight of school children who find it difficult to cross the main road during the morning rush hour.

Jeff, who now lives in Thame, said: "It is something that Buckinghamshire County Council are well aware of as I drew their attention to it three years ago.

"I am right behind Emma's campaign and suggest she bombards the council with lots of letters."

After seeing Emma's story in The Star, Jeff said he had written to Wycombe District Council, Bucks County Council and to members of the High Way Authority. He said: "I also wrote individually to all thirty-odd local councillors on Wycombe District Council's planning and applications panel."

Emma has vowed she will continue her fight for a pedestrian crossing before someone is injured or even killed. She said: "I will take Mr Jefford's advice - I won't give up."

Emma said she had received a letter from the county council giving a list of reasons why there is an island in the road opposite Thanestead Farm and not a pedestrian crossing.

She said: "They said that not enough people would use it which I think is wrong."

Yesterday a county council spokesperson said the council confirmed it would review the site, which doesn't conform with existing criteria for a pelican crossing, in six months.
