STEVE Redgrave clinched his 17th Henley title as his Leander Club coxless fours won the Stewards Challenge Cup at the Royal Regatta.

But there was bitter disappointment for Marlow, who in a joint boat with Thames, were beaten by one third of a length in the women's eights final by San Diego.

Defeat was all the more disappointing because the Marlow/Thames crew had, on Saturday, beaten the Canadian world silver medallists by one foot to qualify for the finals.

Marlow also went close in the Britannia Cup but crashed out to Irish crew Neptune in the semi-final.
