A CHARITY hunting for the cure to leukaemia is hoping people will put on their running shoes to help raise the money needed to carry on its life-saving research.

The Anthony Nolan Trust is looking for people to take part in the London Marathon next year.

Each year its runners raise more than £500,000 by taking part in running events all over the world.

The charity's marathon co-ordinator Barry Butt said: "It does not matter if you are a serious runner, a gentle jogger or a confirmed walker. We will support you through the whole Flora London Marathon process from applying for places, to the training and the fundraising and keeping up morale."

Last year the London marathon raised more than £280,000 for the trust.

Barry added: "The money raised by events like the Flora London Marathon is used by the trust to recruit new donors to the donor register in an effort to provide a donor for whoever may need one.

"The money our runners raise could be the difference between life and death to children and young adults in the UK and all over the world."

Most sufferers cannot find a donor within their family so need an unrelated donor, which is where the charity's register comes in.
