POLICE hunting for the body of murder victim John Goodman have found his remains in the flat where he used to live.

Search teams returned to the flat in Mattock Lane last week after Brazilian drifter Fabio Pereira was convicted of Mr Goodman's murder.

The flat was searched by officers when Mr Goodman was reported missing in July last year but despite the search Mr Goodman's body was not found.

Police are now planning to carry out a review of the original search that failed to find Mr Goodman's remains.

At the time, police looked in drains and outside the property and comprehensively searched the one-bedroom flat.

Police spokesman Chris Mullally said: "On October 15 police were searching 21 Mattock Lane.

"They discovered some human remains, which have been taken to Ealing Hospital mortuary."

A post mortem was carried out on Monday afternoon, and on Wednesday the remains were formally identified as those of John Goodman.

His next of kin has been informed Mr Mullally added: "The home itself was subject to a thorough search when he was reported missing last year.

"The SCD will now conduct a review into how the original search had taken place at the premises."

After Pereira murdered Mr Goodman he assumed his victim's identity, spending his money and taking over his home and mobile telephones.

He was initially arrested on suspicion of deception and fraud but later charged with Mr Goodman's murder despite no body being found.

Pereira was found guilty on October 8 and is due to be sentenced next month.
