HARROW Borough signed top comedian Terry Alderton to play at Chesham on Tuesday but the laugh was on him as he promptly let in five goals.

The former Southend United glovesman turned telly comic did not see the funny side as Chesham went nap on his debut.

He wasn't laughing as goals from Ernie Cooksey, Wayne Andrews, Fitz Hall and a late brace from substitute Victor Renner ripped past him.

Harrow snapped Alderton up on a free transfer from the London Comedy Store because regular keeper Duncan Roberts is injured and deputy Keita Karamoko was on international duty with Mali.

But the new signing, who is best known for co-presenting BBC Television's National Lottery Red Alert programme with Lulu and his appearances on Radio 5's sports quiz Sick As A Parrot and First Impression was embarrassed by a rampant Chesham side who strolled to a 5-0 victory despite being reduced to ten men following Richard Graham's dismissal for two bookable offences.

Victor Renner wore the biggest smile of the night as he returned after nine games out injured and blasted two goals in the five minutes that he was on the field.

The victory completed a good week for the Meadow Men. On Saturday they beat East Thurrock United 2-0 to net £7,500 in prizemoney and a place in the third qualifying round of the FA Cup.

Monday's draw provided more good news when it served them up a home tie against Dr Martens League Cambridge City on October 13.

The match offers United an unexpected reunion with full back Martin Fox who left the Meadow during the summer to join the University city's club.

Meanwhile, Steve Slade has been kicked out of Chesham United after just two weeks for 'unacceptable behaviour.'

The 25-year-old former Tottenham and QPR striker was shown the red card by The Generals for insulting bar staff at Grays Athletic following United's defeat there ten days ago.

A United spokesman said: "His behaviour was unacceptable for a Chesham player."
