A FUTURISTIC new male grooming clinic which uses 'self-service' robot hairdressers is set to be pioneered in the Eden shopping centre.

Robo-Chop will become the first UK hair salon to utilise new technology from Japan, enabling residents to enjoy a precision hair cut from 'self service' robot cutting stations.

The 1,200sq ft grooming centre, which Eden says should be ready by the end of July, will feature six robot cutting stations – 'similar' to self service tills found in supermarkets.

Customers simply sit in the barber's chair, insert their money and choose from a host of different hair styles and grooming treatments on a touch-screen computer, before the specially designed machine gets to work.

Developers, who have worked closely with a host of top hairstylists and salons, say the hair chopping cyborgs can cut hair “quicker and more accurately” then human stylists.

The salon will employ one member of staff, in a bid to keep running costs low, who will be on hand to answer queries, offer help to customers and keep the barbershop clean.

Eden centre director Daniel Tomkinson said: “We are delighted to be the first in the country to welcome this new concept from Japan. Robo-Chop promises to be a popular addition to the mix at Eden.

“Everyone is bound to be a bit apprehensive at first, but once they have tested it, I‘m confident shoppers will feel more at home with the idea. I can’t wait to try it myself.”
