THIS MORNING AT TEN the gates of the Memorial Centre will be opened and the massive, annual jumble sale will get underway. Today, hardware and toys will be sought by the bargain hunters, but there will be other minor clothing stalls open if the weather is good.

The main sale in the centre and the marquees begins at 10am tomorrow and by the end of the day it is hoped to top £10,000 in funds raised.

A SPEAKER from the Chilterns Conservation Board will talk to the National Council for Women when their term starts at 2.15pm on Thursday in Chalfont St Peter Community Centre.

ST JAMES, Gerrards Cross, enjoys its Harvest Supper on Saturday, October 1 with a celebration service the next day.

CAMERA CLUB is already well into its winter programme at the Memorial Centre and devotes Wednesday evening's meeting to camera experts, Jessops. The meeting begin at 7.45pm and newcomers of all standards are welcome.

Other clubs beginning a new season at the Memorial Centre next week are the Scottish Country Dancers, who meet at 8pm on Tuesday, the Sailing Association, which meets on Wednesday evenings at 7.45pm, the Decorative and Fine Arts Society, who meet at 10am on Wednesday and the History Society, who gather in the centre at 8pm on Friday. The Club for Women, who meet at 2.30pm on Wednesday, and the Probus Club at 10am on Wednesday continue their meetings next week.

ALL SAINTS CHURCH holds its Harvest Supper in the church hall in Oval Way tomorrow evening. Family worship will be the next day at 10am. Harvest service will also take place on Sunday at 10.30am in the Methodist Church, Oak End Way, and will be followed by a lunch at midday.

OAK END WAYFARERS begin a new season of monthly meetings at the Methodist Church on Wednesday evening. Peter Catley will talk about "Life in Wellington's Army" at the men's supper club.
