JO KANE, currently heading the town's tourist activities at the Area Information Office in the High Street, gets more responsibility on October 12 when she adds the Wycombe Council's duties to her responsibilities. She succeeds Mary O'Shaugnessy who is moving to the Wycombe Council Offices as a team leader after spending several years fronting the Marlow operation.

HOOLIGANS broke into the cemetery's hut last week and got away with grass strimmers used by the council's work force to keep the area neat and tidy.

IMPORTANT DAY tomorrow for town mayor Cllr Roger Wilson. He will be at the Causeway at 10am to receive the Tindall Cup from Vice Lord Lieutenant for Bucks, Sir Henry Aubrey Fletcher, who is standing in for Sir Nigel Mobbs. The Town Mayor will receive the trophy as Bucks Best Kept village.

After that he will go onto All Saints Church hall at midday to present the trophies to the winners of this summer's Marlow in Bloom contest.

SIR HENRY AUBREY-FLETCHER will be in the town again on Saturday week when he officiates at the opening of the new Marlow fire station.

PUBLIC MEETING is being held by Wycombe District Council at Court Garden on Thursday at 6.30pm to further the future of the town and surrounding villages. Under the title Imagine the Future (part three), resident and business comments will be noted and fed into the district's Community Plan, which aims to produce an economic, social and environmental strategy for the area up to 2026. Packs explaining what the council has in mind will be available at the meeting and comments and feed-back are needed by November 4.

GORGEOUS SMELLS will be emanating from 2 Oak Tree Road on Tuesday when Audrey and Jack Brunsdon promote their annual Chocolate for Chocoholics day in time for their loyal NCH charity followers to get ahead in the race for Christmas gifts.

FINAL Music for a Sunday Afternoon concert this year will be at All Saints Church on Sunday when soprano Catherine Martin and baritone Robert Gibbard will be accompanied by Mary Hill on the piano. The 45 minute recital begins at 4pm and admission is free. Afternoon tea is also available.

HOPING to get a minimum of ten cars, the Methodists at the Spittal Street church are holding a fund-raising treasure hunt around the area on Sunday afternoon. The fun event will end with tea back at the church.

AS PART OF the world's biggest coffee morning to boost Macmillan Cancer Relief funds, there is a gathering at the Methodist Church in Spittal Street next Friday, September 30. All are welcome for a coffee and a chat between 10.30am and midday. Whittards in the High Street are also supporting the charity and will be serving coffee from 10am to 5pm.

JUDGE Roger McCallum of Woodley PC is the judge of the Camera Club's first open competition of the season on Tuesday evening at 7.45pm in Bovingdon Green village hall. Club members can submit up to three slides and three digital projected images on any subject for the contest.

LATEST ADDITION to Court Garden's swimming programme is an adults drop-in lesson. A fully qualified instructor is on hand to offer advice and tuition on Wednesday lunch times from midday for 90 minutes. It is for adults only and costs £3 per session.

Pay as you go swimming lessons have also re-started and there are beginners' courses from 8.30pm to 9.15pm and improvers lessons from 9.15pm to 10pm today and next Friday and then on October 7, 14 and 21. They will also be held each Friday in November and continue on December 2 and 9. There is no need to book these swimming sessions. Pay at reception and meet the instructor poolside.

NUMBERS are limited for David Williams' illustrated talk on the Battle of Trafalgar and the death of Lord Nelson, which he is giving on behalf of the Marlow Society at Christ Church in Quoiting Square tomorrow evening.

Mr Williams has presented television programmes on the 200-year-old battle and has also worked at the National Maritime Museum.

PRESIDENT of Marlow Sea Cadets, Doug Anson MBE, presented the TS Apollo unit with a cheque for £1000 given by Bucks County Council towards maintenance and repairs to their headquarters in Wethered Road.

In thanking the council for their support, chairman Richard Royall said that without the award TS Apollo would have great difficulty in maintaining their high standards in supporting the youth of the town and district.

The Sea Cadets are now very active in their fund-raising. A recent effort was a sponsored walk on the Rye in Wycombe, which raised nearly £1000 when volunteers formed the outline of HMS Victory and walked 200 yards.

MARLOW SOUND CELEBRATION, an evening of unaccompanied harmony, will raise much needed funds for the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance service tomorrow. The Thames Valley Chorus and Vox Concordia combine to stage the concert at the Shelley Theatre at 7.30pm.
