A LITTLE Marlow school should still get a zebra crossing, despite fears not enough people would use it.
Claytons Combined School, just off Marlow Road, has been campaigning for a crossing to allow pupils to cross safely.
The crossing was planned for near Wendover Road, near the school, because of high levels of traffic in the mornings.
But Cllr Patrick Walmsley told Little Marlow Parish Council that plans had stalled because consultation had shown not enough people wanted to cross the road.
He said Claytons had responded by producing a petition of people who pledged they would use a crossing if it was made.
He said: "We have gone around and got to the stage where 200 people have written in and said if there is a pedestrian crossing they would use it."
But Buckinghamshire County Council said on Wednesday that they planned to press ahead with the crossing anyway.
Mark Oldfield, team leader for school travel planning, said people would only want to cross the road once a crossing was available and this made results irrelevant. He said the next step was consultation with residents and emergency services.
He added: "I will meet consultees to firm up locations."
