FRIDAY the 13th can be lucky for some, despite its reputation, and the newest arrival at Buckinghamshire's Home of Rest for Horses is certainly one of them.

The 14-hand elderly pony was found dirty, starving and suffering from anaemia and poor liver function.

But the home, in Lacey Green, is confident that, with a lot of tender loving care, the dark bay pony will pull through to make a full recovery.

Susan Lewis, the home's public relations manager, said: "We've nicknamed her Lucky, because she was brought to us on Friday, January 13 but such a pretty pony deserves a better name."

At first, Lucky looked like she had two white feet. But a closer inspection revealed it was the cream colour of her skin showing through, after a lice infection had caused handfuls of hair to fall out.

Mrs Lewis added: "She has the prettiest eyes I've ever seen on a pony. It was really sad to see her in such a state. People don't often realise the harm that such neglect can do to an animal. But now she is cosy and warm and having lots of nice baths."

Lucky will now remain at the home permanently.

The home is asking Star readers to think of a new name for her. Suggestions should be sent to "Lucky", The Home of Rest for Horses, Slade Lane, Lacey Green, Bucks HP27 0PP, or emailed to susan@homeofrestforhorses.co.uk with "lucky name" in the subject line.
