What a massive victory for Wycombe on Tuesday night! They completed the double over Notts County with a workmanlike performance. It was the Blues first win for a month and my how they deserved it.

After all the traumas of the last month, it was good to see a smile return to everyone's face, and the smile became even wider with news that Wycombe had returned to the top of the league.

The defence can take credit for the victory, with every single member of the back four playing their part. It was the best defensive display since the Grimsby away match.

Dean Bowditch can also take credit for a much-improved performance culminating in a goal. Bowditch seemed to cover every blade of grass on Tuesday night.

It was an inspired substitution to bring on Ian Stonebridge. Stoney's goal, 13 seconds after coming on, was reminiscent of Teddy Sheringham's goal against Greece five years ago. Ironically Wycombe were playing at Meadow Lane on that same day.

I'm told that John Gorman played a part in the substitution. Gorman sat in the stands after being in hospital with his ill wife, Myra.

Myra apparently told him to go to the game and Steve Brown, in charge of the team, consulted with Gorman before bringing Stonebridge on.

Our hearts obviously go out to John and Myra on her illness and we wish her a speedy recovery.

The team have passed a very serious test of themselves as players over a traumatic period. They have coped admirably with the circumstances thrown about them.

They can look to the rest of the season with renewed optimism. Given the sadness this season has brought, a League Two title would be a fitting outcome for a remarkable group of people.

Two pieces of news concerning the Supporters Trust: Firstly thanks to everyone who has helped us come within £1,000 of our target to secure our seat on the board.

Once the final figure has been reached, the Supporters Trust can concentrate fully on achieving our main aims of supporting the football club and the community.

Secondly, Andy Worboys, a well-known supporter and member of the Trust is walking to Cheltenham for the game on March 4.

Andy is raising funds for the Mark Philo Memorial Trust and the Supporters Trust. You certainly won't get me doing a 70-mile walk to a game for a match but full credit to Andy for helping out two noble causes.

Ian Baker is on the Board of Wycombe Wanderers Supporters Trust. For further details about the Trust and how to join please see www.wwst.org.
