CELEBRITY chef Raymond Blanc has won permission to open a French patisserie in Beaconsfield.

Maison Blanc looks set to open in the old Martin's newsagent in Penn Road, after councillors at South Bucks District Council backed the plans on Wednesday.

The firm, which was founded by Mr Blanc in 1981, has a chain of shops in the south east and would sell specialty breads as well as serving coffee and French cakes.

There was a mixed reaction to the plans from shoppers last month as some feared Maison Blanc would take business away from Jungs - a 69-year-old family bakery which is directly opposite (see link below).
