MY dislike of people eating in the cinema is shared by at least one Backchat fan who wrote in to say he completely agreed with my recent attack on anti-social munching at the movies

One reader emailed me to say: “Haven’t been back after the chap in front of me went out in mid film to stock up on burgers. And of course everyone else seemed to be grazing on popcorn.”

What I failed to mention, however, is that there is an even worse cinema snack – choc ice.

The sound of slurping the ice and chocolate is repellent and normally a habit engaged in by late middle-aged people.

The last time I witnessed this was eight years ago at the cinema in Cressex when we went to see Gosford Park.

There were rows and rows of old folk sucking on their ices which quite put me off the movie.

What’s more, my wife went into labour that very night just after we returned home.

Could these events be connected?
