TESCO has put forward a new bid to demolish the old police station in Bourne End and build a convenience store in its place.

Previous plans were rejected by Wycombe District Council last year.

The retail giant also wants to build four flats above the store. A decision is expected by August 11.

Jim Penfold, chairman of Bourne End Residents Association, said: “We have got enough supermarkets in the village thank you, we don't need another one.

“The people of Bourne End did not like the plan before so I can't see that they are going to like it now.

“I think that some of our local shops may struggle to survive if Tesco arrives. If you want to shop in Tesco there is a big one in Loudwater which I use."

He urged people to look at the plans on the Wycombe District Council website and leave their comments (see link below).

The previous application was refused because it was thought there were already enough supermarkets in the village.

There are currently two Co-operative stores, while Sainsbury's has won permission to open a late-night supermarket on The Parade – opposite the site Tesco wants to develop.

Building work is yet to start on the new Sainsbury's store. The Bucks Free Press contacted the developer, Comland PLC, to see when work is likely to begin but no one was available to comment.
