A GREAT Britain hockey star has told how she was “really inspired” by secondary school pupils from Marlow.

Alex Danson praised Great Marlow School youngsters for making her feel “so welcome” after a visit as part of the Sky Sports Living for Sport scheme, which is run with the Youth Sport Trust.

In a letter to the Free Press she wrote: “It was a real delight to see the children get so involved in the days activities and hear from the kids themselves just how much of a positive impact the initiative has had on their lives.

“I would like to take this chance to congratulate the students for their hard work, and urge them to keep focused on achieving their goals.

The England player, an Athlete Mentor for the scheme, said it was a “privilege” to meet them.

The Olympic competitor wrote: “Our session encouraged them to see how, with the right attitude and by applying life skills such as focus, confidence and respect for rules they can learn through sport, they can achieve anything they set their mind to. I came away feeling really inspired.”

She added hard work self belief and determination are just as important for youngsters as talent.
