A PAEDOPHILE who groomed a “vulnerable” 15-year-old girl swore at a judge and needed six people to restrain him today after being sentenced to four years in prison.

Warren Russell launched a four-letter tirade at Judge Seddon Cripps after being told his sentence, which included being put on the Sex Offenders' Register for the rest of his life.

The hearing for Russell had been delayed after the 20-year-old said he “kicked off” while being put in a prison van that took him to Aylesbury Crown Court to be sentenced, apparently attacking security staff with a chair leg.

At the start of the hearing Russell warned the judge he “won't be happy” if he was jailed for more than three years.

Russell was in court to be sentenced for two charges of sexual activity with a female child under the age of 16 and one of child abduction.

He had pleaded guilty to the charges in May, when a previous hearing in March had to be adjourned when he attempted to self-harm in the cells.

Sally Hobson, prosecuting, said during previous court appearances offences of a sexual nature were left to 'lie on file' and dropped after Russell pleaded guilty to other charges.

Russell had previously been sentenced to ten months' detention for detaining a child without lawful authority – a charge relating to a previous incident with the same girl.

The court heard they previously spent a night together in woodland near Amersham.

Miss Hobson said the girl's father became “concerned” about her contact with Russell after finding a number of sexually explicit text messages from him on her phone, and called the police.

Among the messages was one saying, “I went to prison for you”.

Miss Hobson told the court the girl denied going to see Russell at his home in London Road, Loudwater, and was going to the village to see other friends.

Her father contacted police but no action was taken until nine days later when officers raided Russell's flat to discover him in bed with the girl, who was 'partially' clothed, the court heard.

Russell made no comment to police during an official interview, but afterwards told officers he knew who had “grassed him up” and “wanted to kill” the person responsible.

A neighbour asked the girl about her relationship with Russell.

Miss Hobson said: “She said that she didn't want to lie about her age, which the defendant had asked her to do, and said she was 15.”

A pre-sentence report concluded there was a “high risk” of Russell re-offending and he posed a “significant risk of harm to members of the public”.

Helen Newnham, defending, said Russell had shown signs of a “personal disorder”, but an accurate psychological profile could not be made until he is 25.

She said Russell had drug and alcohol problems.

He has seven convictions for 12 offences, including for possessing an imitation firearm with intent, possession of a bladed article and harassment of two young girls.

Passing sentence, Judge Cripps told Russell: “She is infatuated with you – in that sense, she is a willing victim of whatever you wish.

"I am sure you pose a significant risk to members of the public of serious harm caused by you committing further offences.

“These offences are aggravated by each other and by your previous convictions, and in particular the previous conviction in relation to the same young female.”

He was given concurrent four-year prison terms for each of the three offences.
