I AM so sorry to hear about the closure of Hearn’s shoe shop in High Wycombe.
What an iconic place it was and while my kids were growing up no school holiday was complete without taking them along to Hearn for a proper fitting for new shoes.
While I was working I would walk around the town in my lunch hour stopping to admire the selection of shoes in the window and going in to try them on when new shoes were needed.
Although the town centre was full of shoe shops at the time, Hearn was the only independent one and it will be a sad loss to the town.
Apart from their shoes I always admired the wonderful set of large matching Windsor Chairs in their men’s department.
I recall Mr Hearn senior telling me they had been made for them by Glenisters, another old established firm now long gone. I hope the family can continue to enjoy the chairs as a reminder of better times.
