WYCOMBE's MP has called on health bosses to reassure the public after criticisms were made about the care received by Jacqueline Loosley – the drink driver who killed Judy De Gelas.

Loosley's husband spoke out after the 47-year-old was jailed for eight years last week, saying Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust should share some of the blame (see link below).

Simon Loosley said his wife had tried to get help and he wanted her put in a secure unit before the tragedy, but said she was released “far too soon”.

The trust has said it will not comment on her care due to patient confidentiality.

Conservative MP Steve Baker said: “It seems that Mr Loosley has made some serious allegations about lack of care of his wife by the mental health trust.

“I'm calling for the trust to make a clear statement about their plans for the protection of the public.”

He added: “We must not forget that this particular tragedy was caused by an individual drinking and driving and there can be no substitute for personal responsibility behind the wheel.”

Emma Heath, a spokesman for the trust, said: “OBMH rigorously investigates all incidents involving people who use our services and lessons to be learned are identified and the follow up is taken very seriously.

“The trust always works closely with patients' families and as standard practice we will meet with family members to discuss issues of concern.

"With the agreement of patients, the results of internal investigations are openly shared with patients and their families.”

She said the findings of any incident report would only be made public as part of an external investigation.

Mr Loosley, 46, said: “The OBMH are holding a serious incident review to see if there were any failings in the system. If I am proved right this must be made public and they must be brought to account."

He added: “Both Jacquie and I would have preferred it if she had killed herself and not harmed anyone else. We are not looking for sympathy but cannot change what has happened.”
