THEY were scenes normally witnessed at Leicester Square or on Hollywood Boulevard.

But the arrival of pop star Peter Andre brought the Eden Shopping Centre in High Wycombe to a standstill.

A heaving mass of hysterical teenagers, mums and even blokes queued for up to 11 hours just to catch a glimpse of their pop idol.

More than 4000 frenzied fans waited restlessly outside The Perfume Shop in anticipation of the launch of the Australian’s latest fragrance, Mysterious Girl.

Snaking its way out through the main entrance the electric queue remarkably tailed back for a further 100 metres.

One baying devotee Sarah Lee, 23, from Southampton, had set up shop at 4am to ensure she was heading the line.

The mother-of-three explained: “I’m freezing cold, but it’s going to be worth it.

“I left home at 1am to make sure I was first in the queue!”

The anticipation gradually intensified as camera crews began rolling to film the escalating excitement, sending the screaming fans into raptures.

And on the dot of 3pm the atmosphere reached fever pitch when Andre finally made his grand entrance, walking out of The Perfume Shop’s main doors to salute his loyal fans.

The former husband of glamour model Katie Price was clearly overwhelmed by the extraordinary reception he received from his faithful followers.

Speaking exclusively to the Bucks Free Press, Andre, 37, revealed: “I’m very humbled, I never anticipated such a big crowd in my wildest dreams.

“I have done a few of these launches in the past but this greeting just eclipses everything.

“I have been absolutely blown away by the reaction everyone here in High Wycombe has given me.”

The excitement briefly threatened to boil over as fans heaved forward, pushing up against the barriers.

But security was on hand to quell the surges and maintain the crowd’s safety.

And the 90s hit singer ensured that none of his aficionados left disappointed, extending his stay for an extra hour as his procession of admirers slowly filed its way into the store to greet the star.

Michelle D’Vaz, national advertising and PR manager, for the Perfume Shop, hailed the day’s success.

She said: “We have probably taken Peter to about ten locations so far in the UK but this reception has been the biggest yet.

“We have seen lots of tears today from not only women and girls, but also from men!”

Andre – who is currently working on his new album - was in High Wycombe to promote the launch of his Mysterious Girl fragrance.

His growing range already boasts Unconditional for women and Conditional for men.
