A CONSERVATION group has called plans for a 17,500-20,000 seater stadium a “white elephant” and believes Wycombe Wanderers and London Wasps should finance any such scheme.

Booker Common and Woods Protection Society believes the project is to facilitate Wasps' aspirations, as Adams Park is “more than adequate” for the needs of Wanderers, whose fans “don't want a stadium”.

In a statement, the society said: “Money would be better spent in the existing local community sports facilities.

“Clubs in the area may benefit from relocation or help with improving their facilities, support in existing activities should be given in priority over the new proposals.”

The society is to hold a public meeting for residents with Wycombe District Council bosses at Cressex Community School on Wednesday, October 27 at 7.30pm.
