AROUND 50 people have now posted forms to me backing my campaign to axe our Bucks councils and amalgamate them into a new easier-to-understand and cheaper system.

Considering the vast number of households across Bucks, this isn’t going to shake our councilors to their knees, but I’m genuinely chuffed by the response.

It’s quite humbling that four dozen or so people care enough to back me on such a complex issue.

In this day and age, it takes quite a bit for people to give up email for a moment and use and old-fashioned stamp and envelope, so I believe this does show there is a depth of passion out there and a true desire for change that our councils cannot easily dismiss.

My only trouble now is who do I give this petition to? The county council, the district council or one of the parishes? Do I give it to a mayor, a chief executive or one of the council leaders? There are just so many of them, most of them walking around in chains or funny hats, being very important.

They should heed the old saying: Less is more. And so should I, so I’ll stop for the moment, but just watch this space.
