PLANS to run Princes Risborough Day Centre with a social enterprise have been put into action.

A letter of intent to run the Princes Risborough Day Centre has been sent to Buckinghamshire County Council, which plans to sell off about 20 day centres, providing four or five new or refurbished facilities instead.

Princes Risborough town councillors, county councillors and leader of the House of Commons John Bercow met last Friday to discuss the next move regarding the future of the centre in Clifford Road, which also includes the Red Cross Centre.

They were given a deadline by Buckinghamshire County Council to put together a business plan to explain how they could effectively run the day centre.

County councillor for the Risboroughs and town councillor Carl Etholen said because there were “a lot of unknown quantities” a business plan was not drawn up and a letter of intent was sent to Tricia Birchley at the council instead.

Cllr Etholen said: “The letter says as a community we are going to get together a social enterprise consisting of Risborough Cares charity, the town council and other groups. We would then work together to develop a business plan in the new year.”

He said: “At the moment it is very much up in the air. Obviously the cabinet will then discuss it and put recommendations forward in January.

“John Bercow is still supporting us in as much as 'Yes we do want to keep that day care centre in some guise.' I am sure we will be able to run it effectively.”

After the public consultation finished in October councillor Tricia Birchley, in charge of the plans, said “no change is not an option” and said there was hope for those day centres which could prove they could be “run by the community.”

The business case for the agreed changes to Day Services will be investigated and proposals will be presented to the Cabinet for their decision in January/ February.
