A STREET party held on Saturday to remember a primary schoolgirl who died from asthma aged only eight is set to become a yearly event.

'Fun loving' Ash Hill Primary School pupil Olivia Chandler - described by her parents as their 'cheeky little angel' - suffered an asthma attack and passed away on September 30.

Her family organised a party, involving neighbours along their street in Henerton Way, High Wycombe, on Saturday.

Around 100 friends and family members turned up to support the occasion, which has raised £1019.96 for charity Asthma UK.

Olivia's mother Teresa Chandler, 31, said: “With the turnout we had, we are hoping to make it an annual event.

“It turned out really well, with about 100 or more coming.

“There was only about three when I went to do the barbecue and suddenly I came back out and my street was full of people.”

She said there had been a good community spirit.

“There was, everyone pulled together and it really surprised me,” she said.

A bouncy castle, games, a tombola and a raffle took place in the various houses along the street.

Mrs Chandler said she had been focusing her thoughts on organising the day during the difficult period for the family after Olivia's death.

“It hasn't hit me until today, I've been concentrating on the event and now it's like 'what do I do with myself?” she said.

The Chandlers have two other daughters – aged ten and two.

Olivia's father Darren Chandler aims to raise more money for Asthma UK with a bike ride next year.

Mr Chandler told the Free Press last month he and his wife had received great support from friends and neighbours.

The family thanked everyone who had supported the event, in particular Samantha Brown, Craig Rhodes, Wendy Stevens, Lorna Wilks and Mary Gaubhi.
