This story is a full update from last night's report.

'LESLEY Clarke out' was one of the chants yesterday evening as about 200 passionate anti-stadium protesters converged outside council headquarters.

Cries of 'keep Booker green' were also heard by passers by at Wycombe District Council's offices in Queen Victoria Road, High Wycombe.

Numerous drivers tooted their horns in support of the protest as they drove by the vociferous placard bearing campaigners.

Some even called for 'Wasps back to London' although this is not the position of organisers GASP – Groups Against the Stadium.

One councillor said he and colleagues attending the meeting later were 'mobbed' by demonstrators coming out of the car park.

GASP was formed to oppose Wycombe Wanderers and Wasps building a stadium at Wycombe Air Park, Booker, Great Marlow.

Among the protesters was lifelong Lane End resident Peter Rose, a pilot at Wycombe air Park, who expressed fears over the future of the “historic airfield”.

“I'm also a Lane End resident and I can see the damage building on that site will do. It seems our views are being ignored," he said.

Allowing Wasps fans who live outside Wycombe to take part in the consultation made it flawed, he claimed.

Alan France, 60, an operations director, of Claymoor Park, Booker, said: "They shouldn't be spoiling a beautiful site like that in the green belt has been there for many years."

He asked councillors to “just simply listen to the community”.

His wife Jenny France said: "I believe the strength of feeling is very very seriously against this and I think the information we've been given is despicable quite frankly.”

Booker Gliding Club spokesman Jane Moore said: "It's a huge development which will cause a massive blight around the area in terms of traffic, noise and light pollution and we want to retain the gliding in the area.

“The proposals don't allow at all for gliding, there's been no discussions with this until recently when we have been protesting.”

Wycombe Wanderers fan Will Shafer-Peek, 25, from Castlefield, High Wycombe feels it is not in the best interest of the club and is a 'misuse from of public money'.

He said considering the current crowds of about 3,500, a stadium with up to 20,000 capacity would have an “appalling” atmosphere.

Marlow Bottom Residents Association Chairman Peter Burrows said it was wrong to spend public money during times of “finanical hardship” there was no “robust business case” for the plans.

Booker Common Woods Protection Society were also represented and said wildlife was among their concerns.

Later, at the full council meeting, Leader Cllr Lesley Clarke again batted away questions about the air park location, by reiterating the council has never stated any support for this site.

She said: "I'm not surprised by the levels of interests both for and against the project.

"We are at the very start of this project.

"There are many more phases to go through and at every stage we have said is we will consult with members of the public.”

Today she told the Free Press some of the rumours surrounding the Wycombe Community Stadium plan are “out of control”.
