A CHARITY for disengaged youngsters and a range of other community groups have benefited from more than £12,000 of New Year grants.

High Wycombe based Street Dreams have been given £1,000 by the Bucks Community Foundation.

It will be used towards a sanding machine and sewing machine for a furniture recycling project.

Longridge Rowing Club, based at the outdoor activities centre in Bisham, Marlow have been given £550 to buy a second hand boat.

Kit for a disability football team in Winslow a prison probation scheme will also be paid for with the grants.

Richard Dickson, Director of the Community Foundation said: "Each of these projects helps address a vital social need in our communities and we can provide this funding only because other local people, businesses and trusts recognise the unique value of what the foundation does and support our work."

In total 17 organisations have received cash.

Meanwhile two of the foundation’s biggest events this year are due to take place in June.

Terry Wogan will be the star at a charity golf day, while there will be an open gardens day at Lord Carrington’s Bledlow Manor.
